Dr. Jules Elliott Garbus, M.D., FACS, FASCRS is a highly skilled, experienced Colorectal Surgeon providing comprehensive care at his practice on Long Island in Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens. Dr. Garbus serves as a co-chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery on Long Island at Winthrop University Hospital and North Shore-LIJ at Franklin Hospital. Dr. Garbus holds Academic Faculty Appointments of Clinical Assistant Professor at both SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine and Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, due to his dedication and contribution to medical education.
Dr. Garbus received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. He performed his residency training in general surgery at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset where he served as Chief Resident during his fifth year. Dr. Garbus was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
Pursuing excellence in Colorectal Surgery, Dr. Garbus accepted a position as fellow of Colorectal Surgery at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic in Florida. Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Garbus returned to Long Island working as a Colorectal Surgeon in private practice for over the last decade. Dr. Garbus has contributed to countless publications and journals as well as lectured on the latest surgical developments throughout his medical career and has been recognized as one of America’s Top Surgeons.

A pioneer in his field, Dr. Garbus, as a colorectal surgeon on Long Island, has established Long Island’s first comprehensive Anorectal Physiology Lab performing Anorectal Manometry, Electromyography (EMG), Pudendal Nerve Studies (PNTML) and Endorectal Ultrasound. He also continues to be at the forefront of advanced surgical techniques, performing robotic colon and rectal surgical procedures utilizing the da Vinci Xi Robotic System. In addition, he is actively involved with teaching medical students, residents and fellows.
He is a member of numerous professional societies including the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the American Urogynecologic Society. He is renowned for his expertise in female pelvic reconstructive surgery and is in Strathmore’s Who’s Who for his many accomplishments and proficient surgical skills. Dr. Garbus is one of the leading Robotic Colorectal Surgeons in the United States. His knowledge and ability has lead him to a positon in proctoring other surgeons utilizing the da Vinci Xi Robotic System.
