Steven Pelaez, MD, FACS is a partner at Colon & Rectal Surgical Specialists New York. He has been in practice for over 25 years. He discusses his interests and his philosophy of care.
Hi, my name is Dr. Steven Pelaez. I'm a colorectal surgeon, a partner here at CRSSNY. I've been in practice for about 25 years on Long Island. I developed an interest in science and particularly in biology from very young and it just seemed that I was meant to go into medicine.
I try to keep myself active. I like to kayak. I do swimming on a regular basis. When I can, I like to play racquetball. And one of my strong interests is also driving on the racetrack and, in fact, I instruct novices and intermediate students on high performance driving. I think the biggest satisfaction for any patient is if they do well, that they feel better and that you've done something to help them.
That's the greatest satisfaction that I think and, I would think, every doctor has whether it's something small or something big. But if the patient is able to tell you they're doing better, they feel better and thank you, that's the satisfaction that you can never get enough of.
