Dr. Balakumar: The pelvic floor is a very complex area. Although many patients that come in with one single symptom, they may actually have multiple different types of symptoms that we really have to try to figure out. So when a patient comes in with issues that are involved with the pelvic floor, we oftentimes have to have them go through a questionnaire because it's not only the anal rectal area or the colorectal area that can be involved, but it really can involve other organ systems that are in the pelvis. Dr. Soleh: Pelvic floor disorders are a complex set of issues primarily faced by women. It has various aspects to it. It has functional aspects to it, it has structural aspects to it, and it affects the quality of life quite significantly. Dr. Balakumar: There are things such as incontinence, constipation, prolapse, and multi-system prolapse that can actually be helped by having evaluation, possibly by surgery, possibly by office-based treatments, possibly by therapy.
