Rectal bleeding is any discoloration noted on a tissue, or on the stool, in the toilet water. Sometimes associated with other symptoms, such as pain and itching. And all these are factors. And often, it's related to also the medications the patient may be on, such as blood thinners and things. The more common causes of rectal bleeding are things such as hemorrhoids, and fissures, and fistulas, things that we see. Often those things do not require any surgery and often can be treated here in the office. Sometimes, at times medications, or even with relatively minor procedures that we do here in the office. The take home message of this is that any rectal bleeding needs to be evaluated. There is no normal rectal bleeding.
