Experience and Prestige

Our Doctors have undergone extensive medical training to diagnose and treat issues relating to the colon, rectum, and anus. Our physicians are respected as leaders in their field because of their experience and expertise in advanced minimally invasive treatments. Each is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. Having several colorectal specialists on site allows us to share information and collaborate to determine the best treatment options for each patient from West Babylon NY.

While colorectal surgeons and gastroenterologists can address many of the same issues, they have a few key differences in their backgrounds. After earning a four-year medical degree, a colorectal surgeon completes a five-year residency program in general surgery. This is followed by additional specialty education in colorectal surgery. Meanwhile, gastroenterologists practice internal medicine, but do not perform surgery. While our colorectal surgeons focus on the colon, rectum, and anus, gastroenterologists treat other organs including the liver, stomach, pancreas, and esophagus. When necessary, our surgeons are happy to collaborate with other specialists to help our West Babylon patients achieve optimal health.

What is a Colon and Rectal Surgeon?

A specialist at CRSSNY explains what characterizes a colon and rectal surgeon. She discusses some of the conditions that they commonly treat. She talks about the other interventions that they will try before resorting to surgery for treatment.

A few changes in lifestyle and diet can greatly improve a patient’s colorectal health. We can also provide medications to relieve symptoms like pain and treat infection. Colorectal health, like overall health, should be maintained and closely monitored as a patient ages. Our team can provide excellent advice to help patients maintain colorectal health between visits.

Our Surgical Facility

Our office and state-of-the-art ambulatory center are equipped with endoscopic equipment and advanced surgical technology. These instruments allow us to target a problem area while disturbing as little of the surrounding tissues as possible. This also promotes faster healing and less discomfort. Most patients can be discharged a few days following surgery.

For patient comfort, we provide sedation options. A certified anesthesiologist can help patients feel relaxed during their exams and during surgery. We also provide the most advanced pain medication before, during, and after surgery.
