Dean P. Pappas, M.D., MBA, FACS, FASCRS, Colorectal Surgeon
Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Dean Paul Pappas, M.D., FACS, FASCRS is a highly skilled and experienced colorectal surgeon providing comprehensive care at his practice in Garden City, New York. Dr. Pappas serves as Senior Vice President of the Mount Sinai Health Network, and as the Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at South Nassau Communities Hospital, and as the Colon and Rectal Surgery Resident Site Director at SUNY Stony Brook/Winthrop Division. Dr. Pappas was named a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at SUNY Stony Brook due to his contributions and dedication to medical education.
Dr. Pappas received his medical degree from the SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency training in General Surgery, serving as Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. Pappas was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and recipient of the Outstanding Resident Faculty Award during his training at SUNY Stony Brook.
Dedicated to furthering his knowledge, Dr. Pappas also completed a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Orlando Regional Medical Center. Specialized training combined with two decades of experience has provided Dr. Pappas advanced expertise in all aspects of colon and rectal surgery, including advanced colon resection and other procedures that can be performed using laparoscopic and robotic techniques, and comprehensive management of all anal and rectal disease. Moreover, Dr. Pappas holds a MBA degree to allow him to effectively navigate CRSSNY through the ongoing changes in healthcare.

Dr. Pappas is an expert in advanced colonoscopy procedures, and can often remove growths in the colon without the need for surgery. If surgery is required, he specializes in the ability to combine colonoscopy and laparoscopy to remove growths using the least invasive methods possible. He has been nationally recognized for his achievements and was named one of Castle Connolly's Top Doctors on Long Island and in the NY Tristate area. In addition, Dr. Pappas was only one of three colorectal surgeons on Long Island selected by Castle and Connelly, to be featured in NY Magazine Best Doctors edition (NY Magazine, April 2014) a notable honor bestowed by his peers. Dr. Pappas is one of the first and most experienced surgeons on Long Island to perform Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEM), an advanced, minimally invasive procedure that removes tumors and polyps from the rectum without the need for abdominal surgery.
In addition to his training and practice experience, Dr. Pappas is involved with several professional organizations. He is a Fellow of both the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. In addition, serves as an Officer of the American College of Surgeons - Long Island and Brooklyn Chapter, and in 2008, Dr. Pappas served as President of the Nassau Surgical Society and remains an active member.
